At our October Board meeting, Portland General Electric (PGE) shared information about their planned Harborton Reliability Project. Our goal in sharing this is to help neighbors be informed about projects that relate to our community, and does not represent KNA taking a position on the project or its impacts.
About this Project
This project involves developing nearly five acres of Forest Park along the existing easment to complete a series of transmission projects (the high-voltage lines and equipment that move power across the region) in order to strengthen the electric grid in and around Harborton Substation. However, the project also raises concerns about environmental and recreational impacts on Forest Park that has led organizations such as Bird Alliance of Oregon to oppose the project and advocate for alternatives that would cause less environmental damage.
After presenting to our Board, PGE sent along these resources for residents who want to learn more:

Get Involved: PGE Community Advisory Councils
PGE is launching Community Advisory Councils (CACs) to give local communities a voice in the planning process. Here’s what PGE says about them:
What they are: Four regional councils that serve as a space for community members to learn about PGE projects and grid improvements and give feedback. Kenton is in Multnomah County, which is one of the regions being recruited.
What they do: PGE says the goal is to bring community members into planning early, so they can learn about upcoming projects and give input on project design options and community benefits.
How often they meet: Quarterly, or as needed.
Who can join: You don’t need to be an energy expert. Members can bring perspectives from their employer, organization, neighborhood, or community, or join out of personal interest. PGE says all perspectives are valuable.
