Neighborhood News - September 2025

Whispers of autumn are all around the neighborhood—leaves are starting to turn, school is back in session, and pumpkin spiced treats are popping up on menus. While summer is starting to wind down, Kenton is alive! Visit the farmers market (last chance before it closes for the season!), explore one of our local businesses for the first time (find a bunch on our Explore Kenton map), or get your art fix at an open studio (there are at least two this month). Happy reading!

An Amazing August

With 88 sales over two days, this year’s annual Kenton Neighborhood Garage Sale was most definitely the biggest and best one yet! It was so wonderful to see folks strolling through the neighborhood in search of hidden treasures.

Huge thanks also to everyone who came out to the Kenton Street Fair on Sunday, August 17! Thousands of friends enjoyed a gorgeous day filled with good food, incredible vendors, and live music. We especially appreciate everyone who stopped by the KNA booth to say hello and purchase our merch. As a 100% volunteer-run effort, your support means a lot! Check out highlights here >

Update on the Veterans Shelter Coming to the Former Kenton Hotel

Do Good Multnomah is actively working to transform the Kenton Hotel (corner of N. Interstate Ave and N. Fenwick Ave) into a high-barrier living facility for veterans. In August, KNA Board members met with Daniel Hovanas, Chief Executive Officer, and Shannon Troy, Sr. Director of Operations. We had an open and thoughtful conversation about the project. We learned that the shelter will be an abstinence-based facility with on-site certified drug and alcohol counselors, certified recovery mentors, and peer support specialists. A facility representative will attend our monthly meetings, and the public will be able to contact staff via phone. The projected opening is Veterans Day 2025. We are hopeful for a productive collaboration!
