A Joyful July

This month, many community events filled our neighborhood with family-fun activities and countless moments of joy. Huge thanks to Kenton community partners and supporters who made these events happen, and all the neighbors who came out to lend a hand and have fun.

Bloom Street Mural Paint Party

More than 60 community members helped paint the Bloom street mural on Saturday, July 18th. The mural was designed by local artist Latoya Lovely with the help of Kenton residents. The project and paint day was organized by the Portland Farmers Market with support from City Repair Project. Check it out for yourself at N McClellan St and N Denver Ave.

Bikes, Friends & Sunshine

Dozens of families attended the North Portland Bike Fair at Peninsula Elementary School on Saturday, July 18. “From safety checks and obstacle courses to smiles, helmets, and lots of riding, the Bike Fair was packed with fun and community spirit,” shared the Peninsula PTA on Instagram. On Saturday, July 25, bike riders of all ages participated in the resident-organized Kenton Community Bike Ride. After gathering at Kenton Park, the group set off for the “Park Lark” ride, a tour of 11 North Portland parks that included an impromptu stop at the St. Johns Farmers Market for snacks.

Concert in Kenton Park

What a blast hosting the annual Concert in Kenton Parkon Saturday, July 25th! Over 1600 friends joined us for hours of summertime fun: dancing to Soul Vaccination, enjoying delicious food, playing lawn games, getting awesome face paint designs, learning about community resources, and hanging out with friends.

Kenton Neighborhood Association volunteers passed out fresh fruit, juice boxes, bubble wands, stickers, and temporary tattoos. Huge thanks to our partners at the Portland Parks and Recreation Summer Free For All program, and local businesses — Upland Autowerks, Don Lee Motors, Import Repair Center, Whole Foods, Columbia Bank, Safeway, and Trader Joe’s — for sponsoring the snacks and activities.

Did you attend the Concert in Kenton Park this year? What did you think? Do you have feedback or suggestions for next year? Send your thoughts to events@kentonpdx.org.
